The series is based on His & Hers, the 2020 psychological thriller by Alice Feeney, and trust me when I say, both versions deserve a spot in your carry-on.

What makes this story especially fun for bookish travelers is the shift in setting.

The series unfolds in Dahlonega, Georgia, quiet, atmospheric, and unsettling in that “something’s not right here” way.

The book, on the other hand, is set near London, where the tension feels sharper, colder, and relentlessly psychological.

Different destinations. Same unease. Same perfectly timed reveals.

I read the book first (no regrets), then watched the series, but this is one of those rare adaptations where order doesn’t matter. Each medium stands on its own, offering a parallel experience rather than a repetitive one. The show brings mood and visuals; the book delivers that delicious internal unraveling Feeney does so well.

One line from the book that lingered with me long after the final page: “Everyone tells a story about themselves that isn’t quite true.”

If that doesn’t perfectly set the tone, I don’t know what does.
